March Into Health!

It’s now March, and we are all looking at how we can stay healthy going into spring and summer. Statistically, most people have fallen off their New Years resolutions by now. Read on to find out ways to continue your path you pledged at the first of the year and adopt it into your lifestyle. Let’s march into health together, starting this March.

Plenty of Sunshine

Plenty of sunshine is essential to your health. Not only does it make you feel better and increase mood and energy, it also helps with digestion. All around, it is great for both mental and physical health. According to sources though, its estimated that up to 42% of Americans are deficient in vitamin D due to inadequate sunlight. Here in Colorado, we are lucky to experience 300 days of sunshine. All you need is about 20 minutes/day in order to get your daily amount! Get you, get moving, get sunlight!

Eat Healthy

This one seems pretty obvious but many of us indulge in more than we should both quantity and quality. Over eating can be just as harmful as eating terrible food. Portion control is key and something we as Americans should strive to take control of. On top of eating the right portions for our lifestyle, eating the correct food helps as well. Up to 80% of how you look is what you consume from food and drink. If you don’t like how you look, the fastest way to change is looking at what food or drinks you consume.

Plenty of Sleep

Sleep can also have a huge effect on mood and health. People who don’t get enough sleep end to be higher stressed and in a worse mood. This in turn can also effect weight control. The average is 8 hours per night of sleep, though everyone is different. Some people need more and some need less. I wish I could function on 4 hours of sleep but unfortunately my body needs a minimum of 7. Find out what yours is and plan to incorporate into your routine.

Exercise

Here’s another category you hear you have to do all the time. You don’t have to be buff to be considered healthy. Realistically it takes about 30 minutes 2-3 times per week in order to get adequate exercise. Not only will this help with caloric intake regulation, it will lower blood pressure, and help you sleep better. Even going out for a hike for a few miles can make a difference.

When looking at populations around the globe with most centennials (people living to 100 years old and older) they found not only their diets were similar and clean but they moved throughout their day and was a part of their lifestyle. You don’t even have to be in a gym in order to get enough exercise! Get moving, movement is life.

Chiropractic Care

This may or may not be new to you but since I am a chiropractor and this is a chiropractic website, I thought I would take the time to help educate in case you are unaware. Much of the population utilizes chiropractic care for aches and pains. While that does hold true, the ones who benefit the most are the ones using it for routine care to make sure they function correctly. Constant maintenance is key in preservation of anything, whether it is your car, your teeth, or the rest of your body. Take care of your body and it will take care of you.
