What’s the Immune System Made of?
Our body works as a whole with several lines of defense to eliminate the chance of getting sick. When these lines are compromised, germs are able to get through and multiply without getting checked. The organs responsible for our immune system comprise of our thymus, spleens, bone marrow, and lymph nodes. Through these organs, they help control the immune system between the nervous, endocrine, and immune system to coordinate homeostasis in the body.
Each of those organs and systems make sure there is an adequate amount of immunity cells in the body and they are matured to do so. When they are not matured and exposed at a pre-mature state, they cannot do their job and illnesses thrive in the body. These cells that flow in the body consist of lymphocytes, natural killer cells (NK) and TNF-alpha cells.
How can Chiropractic Help?
Chiropractic care has seen boosts in antibody cells in the body including T and B lymphocytes, NK cells, as well as several others related to the immune function in the body. The reason why is simple, you remove the interference of the body that’s inhibiting these processes and the body will heal and thrive. Vertebral subluxations cause this interference in the first place so eliminating it will help the body be in an opportune state to heal itself. Kent et. al. used serum thiol levels to help measure overall health and immune function in the body. What they found was for people under constant chiropractic care, their serum thiol levels increased which are responsible for DNA repair and healing following damage.
In other words, people in this study who found they had higher serum thiol levels were seen to have better immunity overall and in better health! That’s great!
