It’s estimated that over 70 millions Americans (29%) have high blood pressure. Many of these people wont know it until they are older and get tested to find out as high blood pressure does not have symptoms in younger populations. In older populations it can result in dizziness, vision changes, heaviness in the legs, or night cramps.

The Medical Approach

The medical approach to high blood pressure is to mimic whatever the natural processes take place in the body that are causing it and reverse it by blocking them. This is turn is suppressing naturally occurring chemicals in the body which is why the list of side effects is so long. Examples of some of these medications include diuretics, ACE inhibitors, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, and angiotensin II inhibitors among many others.

Non-Medical Approach

Many will choose non medical approaches when they find they have a problem, either to use instead of medicine or work synonymous with it. Some of these include quitting smoking if you smoke, eating a healthy and well balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising, limiting alcohol consumption, and of course chiropractic.

Chiropractic and Blood Pressure

Chiropractic is designed to help the body function better by eliminating stress off the nervous system. In doing so by moving the bones as long levers, vertebral subluxations that are causing the stress disappear. Once the stress is relieved, the body is able to function correctly. The parts of the body that control and modulate both rate and rhythm of the heartbeat that impact blood pressure are located in the brain stem and are able to normalize. Typically the adjustment is either at the fuse box of the spine (C1 the Atlas) or else where in the upper cervical spine. The brain stem afore mentioned is located from the skull down to C2 in the neck. This in turn brings the over-stimulate and under-stimulated receptors back to within normal limits.

In our office we only use the most advanced and scientific way of adjusting that just happens to be one of the most gentle. It’s called Torque Release Technique or (TRT) for short. Read more about it here and why you might want that way of adjusting from now on! Read about it HERE.

Prove it!

Chiropractic research has a lot of studies on high blood pressure normalizing under chiropractic care. According to an article found, the MD saw the effects it has on the body and was quoted saying the adjustment has the effect of two blood pressure medications given in conjunction without the side effects.
